Waiting

Waiting

A long while bathing in the creek,
The morning star is already aglare,
While still this terrible and bleak,
And dumb apathy is everywhere.

The stars and hours have passed;
And waves the bridge’s arch below;
All night I awaited steadfast,
An unknown guest to drop by though.

All spears of morn along the skyline,
All canvases of day across the plain…
And a meal of bread and wine,
And a lamp, still on my table lain…

Could he have missed the door
Of my home along the dark road?
All nights I wait and wait for
The messenger to drop by my abode.

Čekanje

Dugo se u potoku kupa
Jutarnja zvezda; već zari,
A svud još strašna, i glupa,
I nema apatija stvari.

Prošle su zvezde i sati;
I talasi pod lukom mosta;
A svu noć ja čekah da svrati
Nekog svog neznanog gosta.

Sva koplja jutra duž neba,
Sva platna dana po dolu…
A obed od vina i hleba,
I lampa, još na mom stolu…

Da li je mogao proći
Moj prag u zamrkloj cesti?
Čekam i čekam sve noći
Tog putnika s nekom vesti.
