Restoration

Restoration

By Milan Rakić

At a solemn burial service I so wish
What they call the past to bury,
And then to you a new soul to carry,
All so pure and with no past blemish.

And I wish, the moment when your hair
And your kiss should descend over me,
As once, innocuous and chaste to be,
To first know the charm of my beloved fair;

And, bewitched, within your infinite might,
Free from all that has stifled me for long,
To feel, in the splendour of this first night,
That in my soul, thus restored and strong,

Of the joyous nests to the cheerful song,
As poplars hum and smells a linden-tree,
And a gay sky sheds moonlight in glee,
Secretly is born of stars a new throng.

Obnova

Hoću na jednome svečanom opelu
da sahranim ono što prošlošću zovu.
I da ti donesem tada dušu novu,
bez ijedne pege negdašnje – svu belu.

I hoću da onog časa, kad na mene
padnu kose tvoje i poljubac jedan,
budem kao nekad bezazlen i čedan,
da prvi put poznam čar ljubljene žene;

I da sav u tvojoj beskonačnoj moći,
očaran, bez svega što me davno guši,
osećam pod sjajem ove prve noći
kako se u mojoj obnovljenoj duši,

Uz veselu pesmu razdraganih gnezda,
dok šušti topola i miriše lipa
i radosno nebo mesečinu sipa,
tajanstveno rađa novo jato zvezda.
