Happiness

Happiness

By Desanka Maksimović

By hours I no longer measure time,
Or by the walk of the sweltering sun;
When his eyes return it’s my daytime,
When they are gone my day is done.

I don’t measure happiness by a smile
Or if his longing is stronger than mine;
Happiness is to be silent with him a while,
Our hearts beating together as they whine.

I don’t regret that of life the course
Will carry my boughs green so;
May now be gone youth and all force,
He’s looked at me with his eyes aglow.

Sreća

Ne merim više vreme na sate,
ni po sunčevom vrelom hodu;
Dan mi je kada njegove se oči vrate,
i noć kad ponovo od mene odu.

Ne merim sreću smehom, ni time
da li je čežnja moja od njegove jača;
Sreća je meni kad bolno ćutim s njime,
i kad nam srca biju ritmom plača.

Nije mi žao što će života vode
odneti i moje grane zelene;
sad neka mladost i sve neka ode,
on je zadivljen stao kraj mene.
