Chimera

Chimera

By Jovan Dučić

I remember the ways I sailed
On the seas eternally aglow
With the horizons ne’er veiled,
And obscured by many a woe.

The archipelago where thrived
The ruddy fields just found,
And the chimeric flocks dived
At a young furrow in the ground.

Where a thick wood pagoda there
A sonorous arch in the sky carries;
Where all secrets of the sun bear,
Their fruit, like bright cherries.

The sky first cast its light out
On human happiness and pains;
We trod where all was in sprout,
God and I alone, thro’ the plains.

To new ports I sailed on bold,
My ship reached high in the air:
Yet, even now in my hand I hold
Some black flower that grew there.

Himera

Pamtim te pute kud sam jedrio
Morima što su večno zračila;
Čiji se vidik uvek vedrio,
A slutnja nikad ne pomračila.

Taj arhipelag gde su cvetala
Tek otkrivena polja rumena,
I himerična jata sletala
Na mladu brazdu prvog grumena.

Gde neprohodne šumske pagode
Drže u nebu zvučne svodove;
Gde daju, kao svetle jagode,
Sve tajne sunca svoje plodove.

Prvi put nebo tu zasijalo
Na ljudsku sreću i na bolove;
Hodismo tud gde sve je klijalo,
Sam Bog i ja kroz te dolove…

Ja odoh dalje novim lukama,
Do zvezda brod je moj uzletao:
A držim i sad još u rukama
Neki cvet crn što tu je cvetao.
