A Night of Love

A Night of Love

By Vladislav Petković-Dis

One eve, like after a hailstorm, my
Skin and my body were so odorous:
Peaceful, joyless and dolorous,
As if beyond the grip of woe, was I.

I perceived not the sun as setting,
A sigh and flowers my dream around
Veiling her hope by despair profound,
And the child in misery now wrapping.

My beloved, I know not any more
How to bear the tears your joy behind,
Yet, when the fair moon lights the night,

With silent bliss as the heart gets sore,
Rest your eye: let melt your soul kind
Into a late whisper of love so bright.
