Ties

Ties

By Sima Pandurović

All things, my friend, leave their trace
Invisible and soft, as dust all over cast,
Either sad or dear, yet hard to efface,
Like the odor of roses or scent of the past.

The souls of all things live, sweet friend,
Live on and roam unknown paths along,
At times the living can feel them wend
Through the air as a smell, faint or strong.

Many scents are brought by a brisk gust,
Or by a cold autumn wind or just a mild
Or irascible breath of spring, and a wild,
Odd temper of all days, present and past!

The life of faded roses and bygone things,
Joy of past dreams and breath of old woe
Some dear wind to me as a cure brings
With the scents of bodies into dust that go.

My dear friend, winds are ties so sound
With the world which no longer does exist;
And the scents are souls orbiting around
For an instant joy and our woes that persist.

Veze

Sve na svetu, druže, ostavlja svoj trag
Nevidljiv i nežan, rasut kao prah,
A osetan ipak, tužan ili drag,
Ko miris starine, kao cveća dah.

Duše sviju stvari žive, dragi moj,
Lutaju i žive… i ko im zna put!
I jave se katkad živima kroz sloj
Vazduha, ko miris prijatan ili ljut.

Šta takvih mirisa snese vihor lud,
Il jesenji studen vetar, ili tek
Proleća uzdah razdražljiv i mek,
I svih dana čudna i nemirna ćud!

Život prošlih stvari, prošlih ruža vek,
Davnih snova radost, starih jada dah
Vetrovi mi dragi nose kao lek
S mirisima tela što postaju prah.

Vetrovi su dobre veze, dragi druže,
Sa svetom što više ne postoji sad;
A mirisi duše što oko nas kruže
Za trenutnu radost, za naš stalni jad.
